Cover Reveal for ECHOES AND EMBERS!
Happy to announce my upcoming collection, ECHOES AND EMBERS: SPECULATIVE STORIES from Stars and Sabers Publishing!
From Bram Stoker Award finalist Pedro Iniguez, Echoes and Embers: Speculative Stories weaves fantasy and science fiction, Latinx themes, and traditional pulp stylings. This book collects 21 tales of outsiders, explorers, renegades, and dreamers as they navigate the mysteries and perils of the vast sandbox that is the universe.
Some of the stories you’ll read: A boy and his grandmother witness the spectacle of a magical lucha libre match; amidst the Robot Apocalypse, an expectant mother’s only hope for survival may just be a robot; a convict finds himself torn asunder and reassembled into a facsimile as he is teleported to a distant battlefield; plagued by ghosts, a young girl finds the source of her hauntings may be tied to time travel; after the Earth is destroyed, three astronauts stranded on Mars may hold the key to humanity’s future.
From magical realism to military science fiction, Lovecraftian cyberpunk yarns to swashbuckling tales in space, this collection spans the frontiers of the imagination and the vastness of the cosmos.

L.A. Wildfire Relief Fundraising
With the recent fires that devastated Los Angeles, I sold off my remaining stock of books (Control Theory, Synthetic Dawns & Crimson Dusks, Mexicans On The Moon) and raised over $200, which has been distributed to relief efforts all over L.A. Places like the American Red Cross, which is helping to provide shelter, food, and relief services to those displaced by the fires; and to the Pasadena Humane Society, which has been sheltering and feeding hundreds of stray and injured animals due to the fires.

StokerCon 2024
I had a great time in San Diego for the HWA’s 2024 StokerCon convention. I met so many wonderful people, attended some educational panels, and even spoke at the Supernatural Experiences: True Stories From Horror Writers panel. I had the honor of having a brief interview in the official StokerCon souvenir book! I also sold some books while helping Chloe at her table as she sold lots of her beautiful artwork. We also made friends with some fellow dealers. I bought a ton of books and got them signed from so many writers I admire. But most importantly, I came away with the creative batteries recharged. Despite the hectic nature of the event, I settled in and had a hell of a time while making some beautiful friendships. If you are a horror creative, I would definitely recommend going.

2023 Achievements
I was fortunate to have some cool things happen in 2023. Here’s a rundown of the things that did, and didn’t happen.
-I had 17 stories (12 New) published this year, and 9 poems (7 New). I also had the fortune of being published alongside so many literary titans like Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Chuck Palahniuk, Cynthia Pelayo, Gabino Iglesias, V. Castro, S.A. Cosby, Laird Barron, John Langan, and Josh Malerman, among so many others.
-I was invited to pen the introduction to the Horror Writers Association’s Latinx Heritage in Horror month feature, as well as being interviewed for the series.
-I led a fiction writing workshop at Pasadena City College. One of the students reached out for guidance on a horror story she was planning to submit. Definite Highlight.
-I learned one of my science-fiction stories (“Do As I Do”) was being taught at University courses.
-My poem, “The Epidemic of Shrink-Ray-Gun Violence Plaguing our Schools Must End,” became a finalist for the Rhysling Award.
-I had the honor of being invited to submit to a few respectable magazines and anthologies.
-I was invited to work on a super secret project I can’t discuss yet. More news when I’m allowed to speak on it.
-I was a guest speaker at the California Council of the Blind where I read some of my stories.
-I have sold a project I hold dear to my heart. Should be published in 2024. More info when I’m allowed to announce it.
-I have compiled and begun shopping around a collection of my horror fiction.
-My horror story “Solitaire in a Haunted Tent,” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
-I was honored to be interviewed by A.P Thayer for his Substack and Sofia Aguilar on her Creativity Cafe podcast.
-I attended the Latinx Visions Conference at the University of New Mexico, where I met some wonderful writers, editors, and scholars, while learning about writing and publishing as a whole.
Now for some things that almost happened but didn’t quite work out.
-I was invited to attend an event called Tombs and Tombstones for the Altadena Library for Halloween where I was to do a reading and sell some books at a mausoleum alongside Gabino Iglesias! Sadly, the event was cancelled.
-I was invited to speak at a panel on Chicanofuturism at LitQuake. Sadly, the panel didn’t get approved.
-One of my short stories was pitched to a producer developing a horror anthology TV show. The writers strike happened and I’m sure the project won’t move forward.
-I was invited to panel at the Utopia Awards on the subject of Latinx Clifi. The event got cancelled.
-I was invited to host a writing workshop for Somos en Escrito Literary Foundation Press, but unfortunately I was going to be in Boston that week.
I’ll be working on some bigger projects in 2024, like my novel, so I expect I’ll have a slower year in regards to writing and publishing poetry and short stories. Regardless, I look forward to the new year and any new endeavors and opportunities that may arise!

Today I hosted a workshop for Pasadena City College, where I discussed and read my story “Shantytown: A Mexican Ghost Story.” I broke down the story and discussed the horror genre as a vehicle for social and political critique. I also went over some tools and techniques that can be applied to any genre of writing. The entire session is available on PCC’s YouTube channel on the link below:

Today my flash drive got wiped out, deleting all my work, including the current novel I was outlining. So I decided to get in on #AwardEligibility time. My next story is “The Facsimile War,” published in El Porvenir ¡Ya! a Chicano Science Fiction Anthology.
